Why the Leafs will never win the cup...

--Sources tell TSN the Toronto Maple Leafs made a strong pitch to acquire 21-year-old forward Bobby Ryan and 39-year-old defenceman Mathieu Schneider from the Anaheim Ducks.
The Leafs offered a conditional first round draft pick in 2009 along with two prospects.--

Aren't the Leafs supposed to be in rebuilding mode? These type of deals are what got them into the mess they're currently in.

As an aside, watched the Canadiens / Red Wings pre-season game in Montreal. You'd never have guessed it was the regular season. Two fast, great passing teams showed up which led to a fantastic game. Also, both goalies were stellar. My prediction for the Habs, Max Pacioretty and Kyle Chipchura make the team while Dandenault & Latendresse get cut (or put on waivers).

The Leafs aren't much different that the Knicks. Big name, but inept management (except for Ferguson, who was just inept). I hope they stay within striking distance of the playoffs so they can make a few dumb moves at the deadline.

To the Habs. I was very impressed with Pacioretty in the Hockeyville preseason game. He's a big guy that can absolutely fly. He's going to be in the NHL in a hurry. But do you really think Latendresse is vulnerable to being waived? I see a lot of the Habs and I feel that Latendresse is normally a pretty effective player. If he was waived it would take about 1 second before the first team on the waiver list picks him up.

Lats is a big guy but his level motivation has always been in question. He was pegged to be the Habs next "power forward" but he still seems a ways off from fulfilling that role. I recall him being selected to Team Canada for the junior championships only to be benched for his lack of effort.
So far I'm not impressed by what I've seen from him througout camp. He should be giving more seeing that his spot is by no means not guaranteed this year. I hope he proves me wrong.

"Power forwards" generally take a little longer to develop. This kid never played a game in the minors and just turned 21. If I were Gainey I would not think about letting him go at this point without getting something pretty decent in return.
