The Real First Toe Drag Post

In an effort to get back to our roots (debating hockey) I am going to post the ultimate debate post. Here goes

NHL Bests in my opinion

Best Passer: Crosby

Best Hitter: Phanuef (followed by Ovechkin)

Most Intimidating: Chara

Best Skater: Ovechkin for Forwards, Bouwmeester for D (over Lidstrom)

Best at Breakaways: Gagner (over Ovechkin....maybe a stretch). Please no votes for Jokinenns of the world or whatever his name is.

Biggest Douche: Avery

Best Coach: Babcock

Best All Around: Zetterburg

Best Hair: Zetterburg (Fedorov still up there and #2)

Best player that ends in "issmiller": Pat Rissmiller

Best Shot (all around): Ovechkin

I obviously missed some great categories.....what are they? And where am I wrong?

Ovechkin as second best hitter? You have to be kidding. Just because the guy is awesome and throws 5 big hits a year, it doesn't mean he is a big hitter. I think a lot of guys would say Pronger is more intimidating than Chara. Campbell is a better skater than bouw and Lidstrom (forward anyway, not sure if he has ever skated backwards). For best hair, I'd go with Mr. Firebush (Frosty can confirm it is red) Commodore. You missed best goalie (Luongo), best legally blind former (or is he still around) player (Bryan Berard), best(worst) hockey nose (three way tie among Chelios, the Hunter family, and Brind'Amour) and best last name to use after making fun of someone or proving someone wrong (Budaj!!).

I'm with Ogie on a lot of things. Ovechkin as second best hitter? Bouwmeester as best skater? Can I have some of your drugs?

First off.....don't just say I am crazy and then not back yourself up....who is the best hitter other than Phanuef?

I am surprised you guys argue Ovechkin as the best hitter. Frosty may back me up because like me probably switches to Pengs and Caps games often. 5 big hits a year.....c'mon, its every night with him. Go to youtube and search Ovechkin hits. Don't just have to be big hits either....he is awesome on the forecheck and checking dmen off the puck. Forsberg gets my vote for top hitter 5 years ago mostly based on hits to protect the puck.

As for Bouwmeester...know it seems like an odd pick but I am talking all around skating. Campbell is an awesome skater and much faster. I honestly think Bouwmeester is more mobile and can cover more ice more quickly and efficiently. I watched him in Toronto last year and couldn't get over how well he skates. I think he is underrated.

Throw Ricci into best hockey nose.

Odd question but has anyone seen "the rocket"? Good movie.

Volchenkov as second best hitter after Phaneuf. I'd put Kronvall and Morrow ahead of Ovechkin too.

Not saying Bouwmeester isn't a good skater, but there are a number of guys off the top of my head that go ahead of him, even when you consider all around skating. Campbell, Niedermeyer, Leopold, Boyle, etc. Bouwmeester might be the best skating 6 foot 5 defensive defenseman.

I just did a little research...Ovechkin was 9th in the league in hits. Ogie....your 5 big hits a year argument is silly, I would have thought you watched more Caps games.

I won't argue Morrow or Volchenkov but I still give the nod to Ovechkin. He hits hard and often.

Not going to argue much on Bouwmeester but I do think he is a great skater and underrated.

Best goalie, brought up by ogie, is a tough one. I can't make up my mind (but I definitely would not pick Luongo). Maybe Nabakov or Lundqvist. Maybe even Brodeur. It's a tough call.
