So. A 28 year old former #1 overall pick with 9 NHL seasons and a Stanley Cup under his belt and perennial Team Canada member has been named the captain of the Lightning.
Why is this news? The question should be why the hell didn't this happen sooner? Or maybe what happens in 3 years when Stamkos (who is supposed to actually be a real leader) is ready to be captain of this team? Do they take it away from Vinny?
Lecavalier is a great player, but I'd probably pick a whole slew of other guys for my team before I picked him. Lidstrom, Ovechkin, Crosby, Malkin, Phaneuf, Lundqvist, Zetter, Iginla, Luongo, Pronger, Alfreddson, Toews, Datsyuk, Thornton, etc.
